Aurora Borealis, Nome Alaska
AuroraPage14. 1 October 2002. Solar wind speeds remained a lazy 350 - 400 km/second, but became intensely charged as a shock wave from our sun interacted with the outer reaches of Earth's magnetic field. This G-3 level storm was seen as far south as Arizona. From our vantage point here, you'll see auroras low to the south, over the Bering Sea, as well as the "usual" north looking views. Nikkor 28mm/f1.4, Fuji Superia 800 and Provia 400F films.
01:00 local time (0900ut) at the onset, and 06:00 (14:00ut) just outside town.*
